Huellas
Plaz-er Competition
Madrid, Spain, 2017
Huellas takes into account the diversity of the neighborhood and aims to articulate it through the redesign of the plaza. Educational, sportive and social centers in the surroundings are identified and connected so they all have some form of representation in La Remonta. In this proposal, the square becomes a space that serves as a musical and events infrastructure, making possible a collaboration between small associations and groups that extend beyond the square into the neighborhood.
Huellas is articulated by superimposed layers that fragment the space, re-scale it, and mix areas with different materiality. Instead of two clearly distinct and separate spaces, the proposal is committed to a typology of square-park, which combines smaller scales and hard pavement hybrid spaces with trees, greenery, and in shadow. Huellas makes use of the diversity of existing programs and seeks a direct relationship between the materiality of the spaces and their re-appropriation for diverse uses, including the hybridization of uses, the mixture, and the combination of spaces and materials. As a result of the superimposition of layers, the square is fragmented into different 'Living rooms' with different scales, capable of holding different activities formalized through temporary artifacts with an open design.
